APPENNINICA MTB, REGISTRATION GOES LIVE ON NOVEMBER 1ST

Starting on November 1st and for 48h only, all riders holding a Promo Code will be able to enter the first edition of Appenninica MTB, the Stage Race for teams of two that will take the riders on a 7-stage route throughout one of the most beautiful regions in Italy, along a highly suggestive – and yet unknown – ridge route.

On Thursday November 1st, it will be time to enter Appenninica MTB, the first Italian stage race that – between July 20/27 2019 – will cross our ‘Bel Paese’ from West to East along the Apennines ridge, throughout the Emilia-Romagna region.

All riders holding a Promotional Code will have 48 hours to complete the registration for the event and enjoy a price reduction on the entry fee.

At the end of this time window, i.e. at 00:00 on the 3rd of November, all promotional codes will expire and the registration will go live for everyone – up to 150 teams, the maximum number of entries.

Available categories will be: Men, Women, Mixed, Masters 80 (sum of teammates’ ages at least equal to 80, as per the day of the Prologue), Grand Masters 100 (sum of teammates’ ages at least equal to 100, as per the day of the Prologue) and the unique Heritage Teams (teams made of a parent and a child).

While entering the event, one of the teammates must finalize the registration, paying 50% of the total fee. The second teammate has to be appointed anytime before the start of May, 2019.

Appenninica will also devote a special ranking to all teams of women, together with a very friendly entry fee. As a matter of fact, one of the organizers’ objectives is to make Appenninica MTB a point of reference for all women riding bikes. The ‘W Special’ concessions, unlike the Promo Code, do not expire and are valid until the maximum number of entries is reached.

Appenninica is a MTB stage race for teams of two, connecting six amazing locations over 7 stages (plus a Prologue): Berceto, Castelnovo ne Monti, Monte Cimone, Porretta Terme, Castel del Rio and Bagno di Romagna, for a total distance of approximately 500 km, with over 20,000 m of climbing.

The topography of the Apennines in this region is very diverse, with a succession of valleys and mountains that rise more than 2,000 metres above sea level. The race course reflects this variety, while maintaining an overall good flow.

Some interesting facts regarding the stages: stage number six – the Queen Stage – is the long and tough stage ‘par excellence’. Above all, it will certainly be decisive for the ranking of the race. In addition, two of the remaining stages will feature a loop course; stage number four will be a time trial and stage number seven is nicknamed ‘the techy one’, which says a lot about its nature.

Very rarely I had to put a foot down or walk and hike-a-bike. There are tough climbs, quite technical too, but they are never impossible. Descents are often over singletrack and they are always good funAndrea Sabbadin of PianetaMTB states.

Like all mountains, Apennines will be hard to conquer, but – here in particular – the changes of pace and terrain will play a key role.

In most part, the race course follows the cycling route known as Alta Via dei Parchi, but we are slowly modifying it to make the race tough – just enough – and spectacularBeppe Salerno of Appenninica tells us.

Participating in Appenninica MTB means experiencing, and sharing, an extraordinary adventure throughout the Apennines of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, an area still unknown to the international MTB community and a place steeped in history, culture and gastronomic traditions.

MTB stage racing newest jewel – Appenninica MTB set for inaugural edition in July 2019

The first international mountain bike stage race in Italy will cross the Apennines starting on the 20th of July 2019.

Appenninica MTB Stage Race is set to become Italy’s first international MTB stage race crossing the Apennines – the mountain chain that is the watershed of the Italian peninsula – with a completely new course composed of seven stages plus a prologue, followed by an itinerant base camp (race village).

The race will have a total length of approximately 500km with around 20.000m of elevation gain, and will follow for the most part the beautiful Alta Via dei Parchi, a trail of unforeseen beauty and variety that zig-zags between the regions of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany.

The two-person team format is a trademark of the world’s most famous MTB stage races and will emphasize fitness and bike handling skills but also sportsmanship and team spirit. Male, female and mixed team will all be allowed at the start, with a special classification and prize for the women teams’ category.

The grand start will be in Berceto, a small village located on the western side of the mountain range, close to the Tyrrhenian sea, and will final stage will end in Bagno di Romagna, on the east side of the chain. In between, Appenninica MTB will offer its participants seven days of adventure on the Apennines’ unexplored lands and paths, that will take the riders through scenarios of breathtaking wilderness and beauty, but also discovering the region’s hamlets and renowned food and hospitality.

The hosting region of Emilia Romagna and the towns that will host the race stages are eager to show the world the vastly unknown beauty of their mountains, a completely different landscape than Italy’s more renowned alpine regions.

Registration will start on November 1st, 2018. A promo code is available when registering on the event website.
